MRI after Local Administration of CIK Cells. a Pseudoprogression featured as ring enhancement of the resection cavity and edema of surrounding brain tissue was observed in a long-term survivor (Patient 4) at 1 week after local administration of CIK cells and gradually resolved during the following several months. b Pseudoprogression resulted in mild mass effect in another long-term survivor (Patient 5) after local administration of CIK cells. c For Patient 5, two operations were performed to resect the tumor before the CIK therapy and the pseudoprogression after the CIK therapy. HE staining showed that the tissue samples obtained before and after the CIK therapy were tumor and inflammatory necrosis with lymphocytes infiltration, respectively. Bar represents 10 µm. d True tumor progression occurred in a short-term survivor (Patient 2) after local administration of CIK cells
