  1. Macrophages were incubated for 48 h in the presence of 5% LPDS ± 50 μg/mL ac-LDL. They were then rinsed with serum-free medium, and incubated for 24 h in serum-free medium with or without IL-1β (10 ng/mL). Culture medium was collected, centrifuged at 4000 g for 10 min, and aliquots of the supernatant were frozen for analysis of secreted TNF by ELISA.
